Obituary of David Leo Field
Blooming Grove, NY
David Leo Field, age 55, of Blooming Grove, NY, sadly passed away after a valiant, but ultimately unsuccessful battle with Colon Cancer (PSA: Get your routine checks, people). Dave was born on November 6, 1969, to Patricia (Glantz) and Douglas Field. He grew up in Great Neck, NY, with his sister Shari and had many stories to tell about his childhood; however, in keeping with his love of lists, here is a summation of what was taken away from those stories:
1. Dave had the most Majestic Fro of hair. It had a life of its own.
2. He had a cut-off jean jacket that someone had hand-painted Jimi Hendrix on the back. We still have that jacket.
3. He belonged to a “gang” (in what was no doubt elementary school, but will forever be remembered as High School), who would never win any spelling bees. They called their gang The Satan’s; however, they had jackets made, and proudly on the back it said “The Satin’s”. This spelling/pronunciation issue would be a recurring problem for Dave in his lifetime, much to everyone else’s enjoyment (Rendezvous anyone?).
4. He has been a Dallas Cowboys fan all of his life. There is a letter to his grandfather when he was 7, where he made a bet on the Cowboys (he lost that bet, cost him a quarter).
After graduating from Great Neck North High School, Dave went on to attend Johnson and Wales University, where he graduated in 1992. He loved his time at JWU, working at the Red Brick Inn, eating at Saki’s & Haven Bros., terrorizing Rourke, and forever stealing his nameplate (Dave had a penchant for stealing signs). After graduation, Dave moved to NYC, where he started his dream job, managing a Food Emporium (What can we say? The boy loved produce). Due to an injury to his back, Dave had to leave the supermarket and went to work for Bloomingdale's. He then went on to manage Lord & Taylor, Kohl's, and JCPenney. In 2017, Dave got his Real Estate license, joining Curasi Realty, and has never looked back. He loved Real Estate and being able to match someone to their perfect house. He was often (brutally) honest and would flat out tell people “this is not the one for you”, even if that meant not getting the sale. Dave was, well, he was just…Dave. He was never anything other than what you would see. There was no pretense, no artifice. He wore bright yellow Crocs proclaiming he didn’t care what people thought (he really didn’t). He was king of the ring and runs (not because he was good at it, but because the resulting Ring videos were hysterical).
The man also loved himself a good list, making Laura memorize them until it was committed to memory, which was difficult because he often changed the order of things. Some of his favorite lists are:
1. The “Pie Heirarchy” (#1 Apricot)
2. “Top 10 Worst Ways to Die” (#1 Shark/Crocodile attack because you are being eaten AND drowning).
3. 1001 ways to use a pool noodle, and his theory was that if everyone on the Titanic had one, they’d all be alive (frigid water notwithstanding).
4. Things Laura had to do if he were ever in a coma (#1 hum to him). Yes, he had a COMA list.
He LOVED a good garage sale and the day towns had bulk pickup, yelling at Laura because “HOW DID YOU NOT SEE THAT STUFF?? (she did, but pretended she didn’t)” Milk cans were a favorite of his, He had 13, THIRTEEN, milk cans…12 more than a normal family should have. He was horrible at construction, not handy in the slightest, but would still try, God bless his soul. Dave loved to laugh and make others laugh with him. More often than not, it was something incredibly inappropriate, but you’d find yourself laughing (and then feel like you needed to go to confession because there truly wasn’t a line he wouldn’t cross). For example, he has been banned from the 1 million women's march page for asking, “If all the women are marching, who is going to make my Tuna Sandwich?”. The 1 Million women did not find that amusing…but Dave did. He loved where he lived. The community, noodling in the lake, and especially the annual fireworks. Most days, when it was nice out, you could find Dave sitting on the porch taking in the view and chatting with whoever happened to walk by. Dave was also very emotional and had a tendency to cry (a lot); but, if you looked at what caused his tears (ICarly “Yakima” episode, Nanny McPhee, Folgers commercials), you would realize it was all tied to family. Because that is what Dave loved the most, above all things, his family. He loved being a father, present and engaging in every aspect of the kids' lives, but he was also…well, Dave, so there was sarcasm and teasing as well. Dave hated to spend money, but would often buy Laura designer bags (always with matching wallets) just because it made her happy. For 36 years, Dave and Laura were together, and while they liked to bicker (it was their love language), they never really fought. Dave’s rule was to “never go to bed angry” and he insisted on a kiss before going to sleep. It solved many a problem, as it was always hard to stay angry at Dave.
He was many things to many people, but to his family, he was everything.
Dave leaves behind his wife, Laura, his three children, Meghan, Sophia, and Phineas. His sister Shari (Steve) Taub and their children, Ira, Natalie, and Jennifer. His sister in law Karen (Jeff) Blizard, son Phil (Tamera) Foley, and their children Kathryn & Collin. Brother-in-law Kevin (Geri) Foley and their sons, Jack & Matthew. He was predeceased by his parents, Pat Field and Doug Field, his in-laws, Kathy & George Foley and the best German Shepherd ever, Rambo.
Go Cowboys.
