Obituary of Judith Marie O'Callaghan
Washingtonville, NY
Judith “Judy” O’Callaghan, a resident of Washingtonville, NY, was called to the Home of our Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Her family had the great honor of surrounding her as she made this privileged, blessed transition. She was 80 years old.
Judith was born to Alexander and Rose (Puma) Banek on August 16, 1944 in Bronx, NY. She would recall this family neighborhood fondly and would tell stories of her father, “Big Al”, gathering up the neighborhood kids to go for ice-cream.
On a very hot August 1, 1964, Judith married Francis O’Callaghan. He affectionately called her “Ju Ju Bees” for these 60+ years. Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her greatest joys were baking, cooking and gathering and laughing with family and friends.
Judy joined the workforce early in life and obtained employment at Teleservice in New York City. She would share stories of being the phone service to some well known celebrities and professionals. She would go on to be employed by Prentice Hall, Par Pharmaceuticals, and, most recently, Crystal Run Healthcare. While she was always a hard working, ethical, trusted employee, her real magic was in, like a magnet, attracting lifelong friends, people who possessed great souls and spirits and humor like herself and would go on to become part of the family.
Judy, with her husband Frank, attended and had a tremendous fellowship experience at Echo Grace Church where they had the honor of serving as deacons a number of years ago. Again, Judy’s magnetism would attract countless lifelong friends here who have become family.
Judy’s battle with ovarian cancer would come to show her most true spirit. While this battle would come to include its share of pains and challenges, Judy’s true strength, spirit and humor shone through. To quote one of her doctors “We were all worried about her, but she was not worried”. Judy fought bravely in a spirit that was a testament to her faith, beliefs, love, humor and devotion to God, her family and her loved ones.
She is survived by her husband Francis, daughters Rosemarie Lindsay (Stephen), Denise D’Agostino (Matthew) and Linda Singh (William Oatman), grandchildren Emily Lindsay, Julia Lindsay, Alexander D’Agostino, Andrew D’Agostino and MJ Singh, her sister Rosemary McCarthy and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Judith was predeceased by: Her parents and her brother Edward Banek.
